UPSC's Gujarat topper Hitesh Joysar is a farmer's son, gets 116th rank at national level

Hitesh Joysar has done his parents proud. Son of a farmer, he has topped the list of those who have cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams from Gujarat. The results were announced on Wednesday. At the national level, he stood 116th.

Joysar hails from a farmer's family in Nundhatad village in Kutch district. It was his 4th and final attempt. He is first in his family who will serve the government.

"I'm reasonably satisfied with this result, though I expected a much higher rank. Since this was my last attempt, I will have to accept this outcome," Joysar told DNA.

He said he could study for around 7-8 hours daily. "I was a probationary officer in a bank. And during exams, I took leave and studied for 12 hours a day," added Joysar.

A B.Com from a college in Bhuj, Joysar's optional subjects for UPSC main examinations were public administration and philosophy.

Joysar's roommate Manish Ajudia secured the state's second rank (national rank 261) with zoology and Gujarati literature as his optional subjects. Both Manish and Hitesh are the first in their families to clear a civil services examination.

JM Acharya, director of the IAS study centre at the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration, praised the efforts of the eight students from his centre who have successfully cleared the UPSC exam. "It has further boosted the morale of our students and faculty members. It has showed the path to the Gujarati youth who are aspiring to become an IAS/IPS officers," said Acharya.
