Karthik Gives up Harvard scholarship, Tops civil services 2008
Adapa Karthik, who topped this year's civil services examination, had an
'incomparable determination' to get selected for the service and has even
foregone the Harvard research scholarship for this purpose, his teacher and
coach P S Raveendran said Saturday.

IPS probationer Adapa Karthik has topped the list of 734 candidates who have
cleared the civil services examinations conducted by the UPSC in October last
year. The results were declared today by the UPSC.
Of the total successful candidates, only 3 per
cent are physically disabled. While 286 candidates made it in the general
category, including 12 disabled candidates, 266 Other Backward Classes
(including 5 disabled), 128 Scheduled Castes (including 5 disabled candidates)
and 54 Scheduled Tribes candidate were declared successful.
