UPSC Prelims : 100 Days Away


UPSC prelims is around 100 days away. There must be a lot going through your mind like how to utilise the time, what should be the strategy for this time etc. There is no definite strategy which can be said to be perfect for the preparation of UPSC. However we are putting this note to give the aspirants a strategy which we think would be good strategy to clear UPSC Prelims .

These 100 days would be the most crucial for your preparation of prelims. A lot of things needs to be remembered for prelims, so last stage of exam preparation greatly helps in that regard. First of all let's look at the books which aspirants should go through:

  • For the polity section read Lakshmikant book thoroughly special focus should be given to FR, DPSP, FD, judiciary, parliament. There is always two to three question from constitutional and Non-Constitutional bodies, so power, functions and criteria for selection should be remembered properly.

  • More weightage is given to modern history. Go through either Bipin Chandra’s India’s struggle for independence or NCERT for modern history. For quick revision spectrum’s book can also be referred. Go through these books only that should suffice.

  • For ancient and medieval history go through NCERT books and try to link it with Art and culture.

  • Economics gets around 7-15 questions depending upon the year. You can refer to Sanjeev Verma’s Indian Economy

  • Geography and Environment takes the biggest portion of the prelims paper. For geography NCERT of XIth and XIIth classes covers most of the things for prelims. Go through these books atleast twice along with India and World map.

  • Environment and Ecology should be covered from NIOS environment material.

  • For science and tech read spectrum book along with current updates in iasexamportal daily current affairs.

  • Weightage of Art and Culture varies greatly with years. It should be read properly, it takes good effort to remember in Art and Culture. NCERT books of XIth standard on Art and culture will cover most of the things and for last time revision spectrum book can be referred.

  • For current affairs follow portals daily and weekly current affairs.

Coming 100 days preparation will decide the success in this years prelims. Do not go into the trap of studying every book. It is far far better to go through above mentioned books at least twice then going through different books on the same topic. Prelims is an exam where aspirant needs to remember lot of things so it is always better to go through good, reliable book multiple times.

What will really help the aspirant in last three months is going through lots and lots of questions. Take a print out of the syllabus and see it regularly to check what portion needs more attention. Try to solve previous year questions asked in UPSC exam and also solve mock test papers. This will give you the chance to realise where you need to work more and correct estimate about your strength. It is always better to make mistake before than during the exam. We believe if you will do the things mentioned in the article and remain focused and confident you will crack the exam.
