Official Notice for changes in CSAT Exam 2014 is just now notified.

English Comprehension marks will not be counted, you can safely ignore those questions. No Change in Exam date or Pattern.

IAS Pre Exam will be conducted on planned date: 24 August 2014.

 

Instructions from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT); Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 

  1. Candidates taking Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014, being conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 24 August, 2014 may note the following:-
  2. The Paper II of the CSE (Preliminary) is of 200 marks and 2 hours duration. It contains a section on English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level). It contains some questions based on a few paragraphs in English.
  3. The Union Government has decided that for the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 to be held on 24thAugust, this section on English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level) will not count for gradation or merit.
  4. The Paper-II would contain a section on English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level). Candidates must therefore note that they do not have to answer the questions on this English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level) section. These questions will not be evaluated.
  5. However, the duration of the Paper II would remain 2 hours and candidates can utilize the entire time in answering all questions except those in the Section containing English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level).
  6. The maximum marks for Paper II would be “200 minus the marks earmarked for the English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level)”.
  7. Candidates must note that the section on English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level) would not count towards gradation or merit. Even if they attempt it, marks will not be counted for gradation or merit.

As per decision taken by the Government of India, certain amendments have been made vide an Extra-Ordinary Gazette Notification No. 202 dated 16.08.2014, in the Rules of Civil Services Examination, 2014 notified earlier on 31.5.2014.

The candidates appearing in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 to be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 24.08.2014 (Sunday), may please note the following changes made in the scheme of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 as per above mentioned amendments made by the Government :

a) Both Paper-I and Paper-II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 to be conducted on 24.8.2014 will be of two hours duration each.

b) The questions on English Language Comprehension skills (of Class X level) contained in each set of Test Booklets of Paper-II are not to be attempted as these questions shall not be evaluated for gradation or merit. The Candidates are, therefore, advised not to attempt questions on English Language Comprehension skills for which Hindi translation has not been given in the respective Test Booklets of Paper-II.

c) The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014, shall thus comprise of two compulsory papers of which Paper-I will be of 200 marks and Paper II will be of 200 marks minus the maximum marks allocated to the questions on English Language Comprehension skills.

d) Final merit for qualifying the candidates for the Civil Services (Main) Written Examination will be drawn by using the aggregate marks obtained in Paper-I out of 200 marksand marks obtained in Paper-II out of 200 marks minus the maximum marks allocated to the questions on English Language Comprehension skills (i.e. those questions in Paper-II for which Hindi translation has not been given).
