PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION, WEST BENGAL ADVERTISEMENT NO. 01/2009 WEST BENGAL JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAMINATION, 2009

 

The Commission will hold a competitive examination for recruitment to the posts in West Bengal Judicial Service in three successive stages viz.

(i) Preliminary Examination (Multiple Choice Objective Type),
(ii) Final Examination (Conventional Type – Written) and
(iii) Personality Test.

The Preliminary Examination which will be a screening test for selection of candidates for the Final Examination, will be held in May, 2009 in Kolkata and Darjeeling. Only candidates of the three hill sub-divisions viz., Darjeeling Sadar, Kalimpong and Kurseong will be allowed to appear at Darjeeling Centre. The Final Examination will be held in July, 2009 in Kolkata.

ALL CANDIDATES WITH LOW VISION INCLUDING THOSE FROM THE DISTRICT OF DARJEELING WHO REQUIRE THE HELP OF A SCRIBE ARE REQUIRED TO APPEAR AT KOLKATA CENTRE ONLY.

Pay : Rs. 9000 – 14550/- plus allowances as admissible.

Vacancies : (a) The number of vacancies arising in 2009 - 26 (General - 19, BC - 02, SC - 03, ST - 01, and PH - 01).
(b) The number of vacancies which may arise due to death, voluntary retirement, resignation or unwillingness to join the service by selected candidates – 37 (General- 27, BC - 03 , SC - 04, ST - 02, and PH – 01).

Qualification : ( I ) A citizen of India or such a person of other nationality as declared eligible by Government of India.

( II ) A degree in Law from any University or any Institution affiliated to a University recognized by the State Government or the Central Government.

( III ) Must be enrolled as an advocate in the roll of Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in India on the date of advertisement for the Examination.

(IV) Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali ( not required for recruitment in the case of Nepali speaking candidates from hill areas of the district of Darjeeling ). Age : Not less than 23 years and not more than 35 years on the date of advertisement for the examination, i.e. on 01.02.2009 (i.e. born not earlier than 02.02.1974 and not later than 01.02.1986).

Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC & ST candidates of West Bengal, by 3 years for BC candidates of West Bengal and upto 45 years for persons with disabilities having physical disability of 40% and above and by 2 years for candidates who have been in Government service for at least two years. N.B. Candidates with low vision will be allowed the help of a scribe, if required.

Fee : Candidates must enclose with their applications a fee of Rs. 200/- only in the form of Indian Postal Order or in the form of receipted Challan from a Government Treasury in West Bengal or the Reserve Bank of India, Kolkata. Candidates belonging to SC/ST of West Bengal and Persons with Disability specified under Persons with Disabilities Rules, 1999 are not required to pay any fee. Such exemption of fees, is however, not applicable to any BC candidate.

Application form and “Information to Candidates” are obtainable free of cost on all working days from 02.02.2009 from the Commission’s Office at 161-A, S. P. Mukherjee Road, Kolkata – 700 026 (Near Tollygunge Railway Bridge) personally from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on production of Original Mark-sheet of Final Law Degree Examination which will be stamped on the reverse and returned to the candidates with one set of form and particulars. Forms and particulars are also obtainable by post on sending a self-addressed envelope (23 cm. X 10 cm.) with postage stamp of Rs. 10/- and the name of examination superscribed on it (Mark-sheet is not necessary in this case).

No requisition for forms by post will be entertained unless the same reaches the Commission’s Office within 18.02.2009.
