Our Approach to New UPSC Preliminary Pattern - CSAT Exam 2011

Dear Students,

It appears that the Civil Services Examination is in a state of transition. The UPSC has abolished the Optional subject paper at the preliminary test stage. In its place UPSC introduced a new CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) from the year 2011. These changes have already been intimated to the public vide press note on 22-oct.-2010, which is available on UPSC Website also www.upsc.gov.in

Here is the complete CSAT Syllabus (Paper II)

  • Comprehension

  • Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills.

  • Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability.

  • Decision Making and Problem Solving.

  • General Mental Ability

  • Basic Numeracy (Class Xth level)

  • Data Interpretation (Class Xth level)

  • English Language Comprehension Skills (Class x level)

A set of 14 Sample Questions for Papers-I and Paper-II of the civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, on the revised syllabus and pattern, has been published by UPSC. These Questions are indicative of the type of questions that may be constructed and used by UPSC in Papers-I and Papers-II of CS(P) Examination, 2011.

However, the content nor the structure/ Type of questions may be construed as being exhaustive or limiting the freedom of UPSC to set question based on the syllabus prescribed for the examination. It may be noted that as per existing practice, both the question paper would be bilingual (English and Hindi), Except for some questions specifically intended to test English Language Comprehension Skills, which would be in english only.

UPSCPORTAL.COM sees this CSAT Examination Pattern as a new challenge to IAS Aspirants and we are trying very hard to help the IAS Aspirants community, specially who are from rural areas. We have already completed the process of developing the course structure and books on all the aforesaid Aptitude Tests. More CSAT Books and in the process of publishing, viz.
