The Research Unit of the University invites application forms for Ph.D programmes on the prescribed formats. Programmes offered by the University for July, 2011 are placed below.

The University offers Research Degree programmes under category A and category B depending upon availability of Research Programmes. Candidate should apply for Research Degree Programmes subject to offer of such programmes under category A or Category B.

  • Category A: Candidates having M.Phil or 5 years’ relevant teaching/ professional experience, who can directly undertake thesis work for Ph.D
  • Category B : Candidates who have to undergo basic Course Work before or alongside undertaking thesis work.

Schedule for Admission/ Registration for Research Degree Programmes:

Last date for submission of filled-in application at the Research Unit of IGNOU. 28th February, 2011
Date for sending Hall Tickets/ Intimations for eligible candidates for Entrance Test/ Presentations (Category A&B) 3rd/4th week of April, 2011 
Date for conduct of Entrance Test for Category B (or even category A if faculty desires) 15th May, 2011
Date for conduct of interview/ presentation for category B To be informed by the faculty of the Discipline
Date for conduct of presentations for Category A To be informed by the faculty of the Discipline.
Issue of Offers for Provisional Admission/Registration for selected candidates (Tentative) August, 2011 

How To Apply:

  • Prospective candidates can download the soft copy of the Prospectus & submit filled-in formats along with a Demand Draft of Rs 750/- (In favour of IGNOU payable at New Delhi) to the Director, Research Unit, IGNOU, New Delhi -110068.
  • Filled-in applications received up to 28th February, 2011 shall be considered for July, 2011 cycle. No application shall be entertained after 28th February, 2011 as the University has scheduled Entrance Test for Category ‘B’ (and even Category ‘A’ if faculty desires and decides) on 15th May, 2011.
  • Every candidate must submit two filled in formats viz. (i) “Application Form” as well as (ii) “ Format for Additional Information” together to the Research Unit, IGNOU, New Delhi-110068 subscribing on the envelope “Application Form for “Ph.D/ M.Phil”.
  • Filled-in application forms for Ph.D Programmes should be submitted on the prescribed formats at the following address only: "The Director, Research Unit, Room No. 14, Block 6, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068."
