## (ADVT) UPSC CSE Prelims 2022 Answer Key & Discussion by EDUKEMY

Union public service commission conducts Civil Service Examination (CSE) every year. Lakhs of candidates take this exam in the hopes of achieving their dream to become an IAS officer. The UPSC CSE examination is conducted in three phases: 

  • Preliminary 
  • Mains
  • Interview

Last year UPSC CSE Prelims exam was conducted on 10th October 2021, and this year it is scheduled for 5th June 2022.

The Preliminary Examination for CSE consists of two papers: General Studies Paper (GS Paper-I) and CSAT Paper (GS Paper-II). The questions in the preliminary exam are objective in nature and include negative marking. As a result, candidates should exercise caution while answering questions in the exam hall. The time duration for both papers is 2 hours. This year the timings of the papers are 9:30 am - 11:30 am for GS Paper-I and 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm for GS Paper-II. 

The UPSC Prelims Syllabus for GS Paper-I consists of various subjects, which can broadly be categorized into Indian Polity, Economy, Geography, Environment and Ecology, Science and Technology, Indian History, and Current Events of National and International Significance. The current affairs questions are weaved along with the basics of the issue in news and thus a complete understanding of the issues in the news is necessary to correctly attempt the questions asked in UPSC CSE Prelims GS Paper-I.

The UPSC Prelims Syllabus for GS Paper-II is qualifying in nature and the minimum mark to clear the paper is 33%. This paper consists of Basic numeracy and Data interpretation, Comprehension, Logical Reasoning and analytical ability, Decision-making and problem-solving, general mental ability, and Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills.

Among these two papers, the obtained marks of GS paper-I directly impact the merit list and plays a major deciding factor in the candidate shortlisting process for the mains examination.
