- Peru is seen as an ‘archaeological paradise’, with the famous ‘Nazca lines’ given the status of world heritage site.
- Peru is home to the ancient Inca civilization, and has archaeological evidences of their sophisticated engineering and agriculture.
- Modern Peru is a multi-ethnic society, with Spanish as the language widely spoken. Peru has an influence of African, Asian and predominantly European culture.
- the influence of various regions can also be seen on the multi-ethnic cuisine of Peru.
- In 2013, India and Peru celebrated the 50 years of diplomatic relations. On this occasion, Peru launched a memorial Postage Stamp featuring the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu.
- Indian Vice-President, Hamid Ansari, launched the Peru-India Chamber of Commerce, in Lima.
- Indian Ambassador to Peru, Mr. Manpreet Bora, mentioned that Indian Peru relations are healthy. there have been agreements in the field of trade and defence. Some other areas of Cooperation are- Trade, Investment, Industry, Agriculture, Science and Environment.
- Indian Bollywood and Yoga are also very popular in Peru. Mr. Manpreet Bora mentioned that every year, Peru organises the annual bollywood dance competition.
- Resource-wise, Peru is fairly rich in the mineral resources. It has the highest deposits of silver, and is among the top 5 nations with the minerals reserves of Gold, Copper and Zinc.
- Mining is one of the most important activity in Peru, and attracts high amount of investment.
- Peru is one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
- In terms of bilateral trade between India and Peru, major Indian exports to Peru include- Motorcycles and Pharmaceutical products; while the major exports from Peru to India are mineral resources and fish resources.
- Indian Ambassador Manpreet Bora mentioned that- in terms of trade, there has been a 7 folds growth in just 5 years. In year 2012, Indo-Peru bilateral trade stood at USD 1 Billion.
- Peru is among the top 20 countries in Football and Volleyball.
- Surfing and Mountaineering are also popular sports in Peru.
