Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC)

The main functions of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission are (the following are the standard functions of all the State Public Service Commission of India)

  • Conduct examinations for appointments to the service of the state
  • Advice the state Government on:

    o Matters relating to methods of recruitment to the various services
    o Principles to be followed in and the suitability of candidates for appointment to the services
    o Making promotions and transfers from one service to another
    o Disciplinary matters affecting Government servants

    o Claims for reimbursement of legal expenses incurred by Government servants while defending legal proceedings instituted against them for action related to the execution of their duties

    o Claims for award of injury/family pension to Government servants
    o Any other matter referred to them by the Governor; 

In addition, in the State of Maharashtra, the Commission also deals with the following matters:

  • Advice The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai regarding appointments to posts under the control of Corporation carrying a minimum monthly basic salary of Rs.3,930/ or more
  • Advice The Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking regarding appointments to posts in Grade - A - II
  • Conduct departmental examinations for certain Government Department employees
