Free Coaching institution For IAS And Civil Services aspirants in Tiruchi

The Tiruchi Academy for Competitive Examinations (TRACE), a free coaching institution to train Civil Services aspirants set up by the District Welfare Committee, will become functional from this month end.

The academy has decided to select trainees for the first batch through an entrance examination on June 20. To start with, a compact batch of about 20 to 25 candidates who plan to take up the Civil Services (preliminary) examination next year would be selected based on the examination and subsequent personal interviews, Collector T.Soundiah, who is also the committee chairman, told The Hindu here on Friday.

Free coaching would be offered for the IAS main examination for candidates who have already cleared the preliminary examination. The academy aims to provide comprehensive coaching to the candidates, right up to the personal interviews, for the Civil Services examsinations. Even the travel expenditure of the poor candidates for appearing in the personal interviews in New Delhi would be borne by the academy.

The academy is being set up at Kalaiarangam (Thyagaraja Bhagavathar Mandram) campus, close to the Central Bus Stand in the city. It would cater to aspiring youths from the entire delta region. Apart from a library, it will have about 20 computers with Internet connection. A language laboratory is also planned to improve the soft skills of the candidates. A committee, comprising eminent academicians, will guide the academy’s functions and the programmes would be run with the help of guest faculty.

The academy has been registered as a separate trust so that donations could be raised to supplement the contributions of the Welfare Committee, which maintains a separate district welfare fund offering financial support for various needy persons. Donations to the trust would be exempt under Sec.80 G of the Income Tax Act. Application forms for the entrance examinations can be had from the TRACE Office, District Welfare Committee campus, Kalaiarangam, 1 Mc Donalds Road, Tiruchi-1, or the Offices of the Deputy Director/Assistant Director of Employment, Tiruchi-1. Filled-in applications should be submitted on or before June 15. According to the tentative schedule, the academy’s coaching programme will begin on June 28.
