UNIT-I: Concept of Management -

  1. Principles and Practices of Management. - Concepts, Principals, Objective and techniques of management. Evolution of management thought.
  2. System Approach.
  3. Management Process - Planning, Controlling, evaluating.
  4. Motivating forces of management - values, goals, standards and their interrelations.
  5. Decision making - steps in decision - making, types, methods of resolving conflicts.
  6. Resources : Types, Characteristics.
  7. Time, Energy and Money management.

UNIT-II: Housing and Interior Decoration -

  1. Developing trends in rural and urban housing.
  2. Housing problems in India & Role of Government in solving them.
  3. Building materials & Finishes.
  4. Building Components - foundation, walls, floors, ceilings, doors & windows.
  5. Methods of lost estimation of housing/building.
  6. Techniques of low cost housing.
  7. Elements and Principles of design in interiors.
  8. Importance of colour, light & texture in interiors.
  9. House hold furnishings & accessories in interior decoration.

UNIT-III: Consumer Economics -

  1. Consumption and economic instability : Business Cycle, inflation, deflation.
  2. Role of Public Sector in counteracting economic instability.
  3. Theories of Consumer behaviour : Utility analysis.
  4. Cost of living index.
  5. Marketing functions.
  6. Factors affecting consumer demands.
  7. Consumer Education.
  8. Consumer right and responsibilities.
  9. Consumer Protection - Standardization and certification of products, consumer protection laws and their implications; Patents.

UNIT-IV: House Hold Equipment -

  1. Equipment and their types : Non automatic / Semiautomatic / Fully automatic.
  2. Classification of House Hold Equipment - Food related, Cleaning related.
  3. Materials and finishes used in House Hold used in House Hold Equipment.
  4. Working principles, use, care, repair and maintenance of following House Hold Equipment. - small kitchen tools, Pressure cooker, Refrigerator, Cooking Range, Food Processor, Microwave Oven, Washing machine, Vacuums Cleaner.

UNIT-V: Ergonomics -

  1. Components of work input - Affective : Liked and disliked activities, goal Character of work. Attitude and Interest.
    Cognitive - Knowledge, skills, thinking and attention.
    Temporal - Control of time, time allocation,
    Physical - Fatigue, Body Mechanics.
  2. Man-Machine - Environment system.
  3. Anthropometry and Bio-Mechanics :
    (a) Designing works and work places - functional design, center concept and their arrangement.
    (b) Environment and safety at work places.
    (c) Work simplification techniques.
    (d) Method of measuring physical cost of work.

UNIT-VI: Environment & Human Ecology -

Environment Pollution - types, causes and protective measures.
- Air Pollution.
- Water Pollution
- Soil Pollution
- Noise Pollution
1. Green House effect : Causes and Prevention.
2. Ozone Layer : A protective umbrella, depletion of ozone layer and its protection.
3. Energy and environment.
4. Recycling of waste.
5. Role of Public, Private Section in management and conservation of environment.
6. Role of families in management of environment.

UNIT-VII: Community Resource Management -

  1. Role of science and technology in women's development.
  2. Identification and dissemination of appropriate technology for rural & urban communities.
    - Health and sanitation
    - Housing
    - Income generation
    - Drugery Reduction
    - Fuel conservation
  3. Women Entrepreneurship
    - Concept and its importance.
    - Small scale industries and women Entrepreneurship.
  4. Entrepreneurship Development programmes.
  5. Role of financial institutions in motivating women entrepreneurship.
  6. Qualities of a good entrepreneurer -
    - Innovative
    - Risk taking
    - Confidence
