Syllabus For Post of College Lecturer: Music

UNIT-I:

  1. Define Nad, Shruti, Swar, Saptak & Swarsthan according to ancient to Modern Music Scholars.
  2. General idea regarding Varna, lakshan-geet Kaku, Gram, Moorchhana, Rag, Jati, Prabhandh and dhatu, alapti, ashray rag, Rag lakshan, Swasthan - niyam, Alpatva - Bahutva, Aavirbhav - Tirobhav etc.
  3. 'That' and its importance in music. Classification and construction of 'That' according to Pt. Bhatkhande and Pt. Vayankat Makhi.
  4. Raga - Evolution & development.
  5. Define Rag Vargikaran and Samay-sidhant.
  6. Scale - Hindustani & Western - Comparative study. General Knowledge about Diatonic Chromatic and equally tempered Scale.

UNIT-II:

  1. Origin of music evolution and development of Indian Music during ancient, Medieval and Modern Period.
  2. Classification of Instruments and historical evalution of Pakhawas, Veena, Sitar, Sarod, Tabla and Flute.
  3. General idea of the forms of Vedic Music.
  4. Contribution of scholars to Indian Music and their Textual Tradition - Narad, Bharat, Datill, Matang, Sharangdeva, Nanyadeva lochan, Ramamatya, Pundrik-Viththal, Somanath, Pt. Damodar, Ahobal Hriday Narain Deva, Vyankatmakhi, Sriniwas, Pt. Bhat Khanade, V.D. Paluskar, Pt. Om Karnath Thakur, Acharya K.C.D., Brahaspati, Dr. Premlata Sharma and others.
  5. Study of the Trinity of Music.
  6. Evalution of Indian and Western notation system.

UNIT-III:

  1. General Idea of main classical dances of India i.e. Bharatnatyam, Kathak. Kathakali, Manipuri, oddissi, Kuchipudi, Chhau and Mohiniattam.
  2. Knowledge of Drupad. Dhamar Thumri, Tappa, Tarana, Khayal, Chaturang etc.
  3. Knowledge of Orchestra, its evolution and new trends in orchestra.
  4. Defination of Tal and Laya - their importance in Indian Classical Music and general knowledge of Dugun Tigun - Chugan Chchagun etc.
  5. Study of Gharana's of Vocal and Instrumental Music.
  6. General Knowledge of Karanatak music.

UNIT-IV:

  1. New Trends of Indian Music in Post Independence Era.
  2. Anotomy and physiology of Human throat and ear, Human Voice and its technique, Knowledge about voice culture.
  3. Elementary theory of sound.
  4. Defination of Harmony, Melody, Homophony, Polyphony Chord. Symphony counter points, Authentic and pleqalmnodes etc.
  5. Function & Role of the Music.
  6. Rasa theory and its application in Indian Music.

UNIT-V:

  1. General idea of Rabindra Sangeet.
  2. Place of Music in Fine Arts.
  3. Musical Aptitude Test.
  4. Imagination an creation in Music.
  5. Importance of Heridity and environment in Music.
  6. General Characteristics of Folk Music with reference to Rajasthani Folk Music. Impact of Folk Music on Classical Music and Vice-Versa.

Note :- Pattern of Question Paper

  1. Objective type paper
  2. Maximum Marks : 100
  3. Number of Questions : 100
  4. Duration of Paper : Two Hours
  5. All questions carry equal marks.
  6. There will be Negative Marking.
