Civil Services get 16 Candidates from Gujarat

As many as 16 candidates from Gujarat have cleared the UPSC civil services examination 2013. They include five doctors, six engineers and one teacher. Last year, 11 candidates from Gujarat had cleared this examination. In 2009, 15 candidates from the state had made it to civil services and since then Gujarat has been doing well in the exam.

Parthrajsinh Gohil, an MBBS graduate, is the topper from the state with an all-India rank of 126. With the all-India rank of 979, Vimal Shah of Ahmedabad is the topper among women from the state. Fourteen male and two female candidates have made it to the final list from the state.

Of the 16 candidates, seven candidates had Gujarati literature as their subject, three had history and two had geography. Recently, UPSC increased the number of attempts to six for general and nine for backward class candidates. Also UPSC had increased the age limit to 32 and 35 for general and reserved category respectively.
