NAFED launches fortified rice bran oil

  • The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) launched fortified rice bran oil to boost healthy living.

Benefits:

  • It including lowering cholesterol level due to its low trans-fat content and high mono unsaturated and poly unsaturated fat contents.
  • It also acts as a booster and reduces the risk of cancer due to the high amount of Vitamin E it contains.
  • This oil is recommended by The American Heart Association and the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the best substitutes for other edible oils.
  • Rice Bran oil from Nafed will be fortified and it will be ensured that it will contain additional nutrients and vitamins.
  • According to the FSSAI, fortified oil can help a person fulfil 25-30% of the recommended dietary intake for vitamins A and D.

Sankalp se Siddhi Scheme

  • Recently, Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the tribal livelihoods initiative ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi- Mission Van Dhan’ under which seven new Tribes India Outlets were inaugurated.
  • It is a five-year plan under which new India movement 2017-2022 would take place.
  • It envisages India free from poverty, corruption, terrorism, communalism, casteism and uncleanlinessand unites the entire country by adopting good governance and using technology.
  • It will provide a good platform to the tribals to sell their products, which will increase their income and improve their standard of living.

Enrica Lexie case

  • Recently, Supreme Court (SC) closed trial against two Italian Marines (who allegedly killed two fishermen off the Kerala coast).
  • This following a decision of theInternational Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) that the duo would be tried in Italy.
  • ITLOS is an independent judicial body established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea(UNCLOS) to adjudicate any disputes concerning the interpretation/ application of the Convention.
  • UNCLOS (1982) is established to define coastal and maritime boundaries, to regulate seabed exploration of resources beyond territorial claims, to protect marine environment etc.

 5th edition of Viva Tech

  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi delivered the keynote address at the 5th edition of VivaTech today via video conference.
  • The Prime Minister was invited as a Guest of Honour to deliver the keynote address at VivaTech 2021.

About:

  • VivaTech is one of the largest digital and startup events in Europe, held in Paris every year since 2016.
  • It is jointly organized by Publicis Groupe – a prominent advertising and marketing conglomerate and Les Echos – a leading French media group.
  • It brings together stakeholders in technology innovation and the startup ecosystem and includes exhibitions, awards, panel discussions and startup contests.

::ECONOMY::

Government launches trusted telecom portal

  • The government has launched the Trusted Telecom Portal signalling the coming into effect of the National Security Directive on Telecommunication Sector (NSDTS).
  • Consequently, with effect from, the telecom service providers (TSPs) are mandatorily required to connect only those new devices designated as ‘Trusted Products’ from ‘Trusted Sources’.

About:

  • The Cabinet had accorded approval for the National Security Directive on Telecommunication Sector, which was to come into effect after 180 days of the date of approval.
  • The government has made a necessary amendment regarding the license conditions for the provision of telecommunication services by the TSPs.
  • The portal was developed and implemented by CDoT, an R&D unit of the government.

Trusted Products

  • ‘Trusted Products’ are products whose critical components and the products themselves are sourced from Trusted Sources.
  • The TSPs will be provided access to log into the Trusted Telecom Portal and indicate the telecom products and the vendor they intend to procure the products.
  • The details of these vendors, the products, their critical components and their sources are then populated into the portal by the TSPs and respective vendors, who will also be provided access to the portal.
  • An assessment is made of the vendors and the sources of the components to determine Trusted Sources and Trusted Products which are then intimated to the vendor concerned and the applicant TSPs to make their procurements.

::SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY::

Indo-German Science & Technology Centre

  • Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) Industrial Fellowship programme was launched recently.
  • It aims to support young Indian PhD students and Post-Doctoral researchers in Science & Engineering for industrial exposure at German industries and industrial R&D institutions.
  • IGSTC was established by India and Germany to facilitate Indo-German R&D networking with emphasis on industry participation, applied research and technology development.
