Is it necessary to take the permission from my appointing authority for applying civil service exam.

Dear sir,
i am working as an accountant in karnataka state government department. is
it necessary to take the permission from my appointing authority for
applying civil service exam. if i did not take the permission from my
appointing authority is there any problem at the time of selection. pls
clarify my doubts.

Dear Bhaskar
While applying for the any Government/PSU exam, it is essential to take
permission from you department head or concern head(if you are a Govt.
Servant). This particular thing is mentioned in the advertisement.Even if it
is not mentioned it is taken to be implied.You can always go ahead with exam
but with at your own risk. Once you are through your background check would
be done, which is complied with stringently. If it comes out at later stage
that you have shown insubordination by not seeking permission of competent
authority then you are liable to be punished & runs a risk of loosing you
current job as well as participation in UPSC selection process.
Hope this clarifies the doubt but i would suggest you to ask a competent
person who is either related to Govt. Service or one who has cleared IAS
exam.
