Applications in the prescribed form are invited from candidates for admission to the competitive examination consisting of two parts viz. written examination and viva voce test to be conducted by the Orissa Public Service Commission under the provisions of the Orissa State Prosecution Service Rules, 1997 (as amended from time to time) for recruitment to 189 (one hundred eightynine) posts of Assistant Public Prosecutor in Group-B Service under Home Department by direct recruitment in the Pay Band of Rs.9,300-34,800/- with Grade Pay of Rs.4,600/- with usual dearness allowance and other allowances as sanctioned by Government of Orissa from time to time.

Note: The number of vacancies to be filled up on the basis of this recruitment is subject to change by Government without notice, depending upon the exigencies of Public Service at the discretion of the State Government. An A.P.P. may be attached to one or more Magisterial Courts.
Education Qualification & Experience:
Age Limits: A candidate must not be above the age of 35 (thirty five) years and under 21 (twenty one) years of age on the 1st January, 2011.
Education: (i) A candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized University and (ii) Should have at least two years of experience as practicing Advocate.
Note: The period of probation is for two years. The appointing authority may extend the period of probation or terminate the service of a person.
Syllabus of Examination:
The written examination for the post of Assistant Public Prosecutors in Group-‘B’ Service shall be on the following subjects. Each paper shall be with a duration of two and half hours.
A. Paper-I (General English)
(a) Translation from English to Oriya of a passage consisting of two hundred
words and Translation from Oriya to English of a passage consisting of two
hundred words. : 50 marks
(b) An Essay of about 1,500 words: 50 marks
(c) Précis writing consisting of 250 words: 25 marks
(d) Comprehension (Passage of about 500 words with 5 questions): 25 marks
Paper-II (Procedural Laws)
(a) Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973: 50 marks
(b) Indian Evidence Act: 50 marks
(c) Drafting of Petition, pleading argument: 50 marks
Paper-III (Criminal Laws)
(a) Indian Penal Code, 1860: 100 marks
(b) Probation of Offenders Act, 1958: 10 marks
(c) Bihar and Orissa Excise Act Chapter-VIII, Secs. 79, 84, 88 of Chapter-IX: 20
marks
(d) Orissa Forest Act: 10 marks
(e) Arms Act:10 marks
(f) Cattle Tress Pass Act: 10 marks
(g) P.F.A. Act: 10 marks
(h) Orissa Police Act: 10 marks

Paper-IV (Miscellaneous Laws)
(a) Code of Civil Procedure, 1908: 50 marks

(d) Hindu Laws and Mohammedan Law: 20 marks
(e) Law of Tors: 20 marks
(f) Indian Contract Act: 20 marks

(h) Interpretation of Statutes: 30 marks
Total: 700 marks
Viva Voce Test :
- There shall be 75 marks for viva voce test. A candidate failing to secure 30% marks in the viva voce test will be made unsuitable.
Examination Fee:
A candidate is required to pay a non-refundable and non-adjustable fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees one hundred) only either in shape of deposit of the amount in the Government Treasury under the Head “0051-P.S.C.-105- tate P.S.C. Examination Fee”, or in the form of Crossed Indian Postal Order payable to the Secretary, Orissa Public Service Commission at General Post Office, Cuttack or Account Payee Bank Draft/Pay Order drawn in favour of the Secretary, Orissa Public Service Commission payable at any Scheduled Bank at Cuttack.
How to Apply:
(i) Application Form : Candidates are required to apply to the Secretary to the Commission in the prescribed form, which along with other particulars, are obtainable in person from the Office of the Orissa Public Service Commission, 19, Dr. P.K. Parija Road, Cuttack- 753001 between 11.00 A.M. to 1.30 P.M. and 2.00 P.M. to 4.00 P.M. on any working day on cash payment of Rs.30/- (Rupees thirty) only or by Speed/Registered Post on remittance of Rs.70/- (Rupees seventy) only by Money-Order. Full name, address of the candidate, advertisement number and name of the Post/Service advertised must be specified in the money-order coupon in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS.
