(Success Story) Kerala's Hero was a "Cow-dung IAS"
Kerala's Hero was a "Cow-dung IAS"
"Siyab is a labourer who has made it to the interview round of IAS exam"
Twenty-two-year-old P Siyab is busy preparing for the final interview of the
civil services examination, just a step short of becoming an IAS officer of
reckoning.
But when Siyab is not studying, he has his hands full with other things like
clearing cow dung and other clean-up jobs.6j
Siyab is a labourer.
“When people to came to know, they mocked me. "The Cow-dung IAS", they said. But
now people appreciate my efforts. If only I come to a position, I will be able
to help my poor family and society,” he says.
A hero in his village now, it wasn’t easy for Siyab to come this long a way.
He managed to score 72 per cent in Class X but with no money to study further,
he took to doing odd jobs.
However, he didn’t leave his books behind, and would study whenever he found
time, even while working as a labourer.
He went on to pursue Bachelor of Arts in History and is now completing
postgraduate studies in Sociology.
“He is not reluctant to do any job. He worked for me even before the day he went
to write the IAS Exam. He has received no help from his family or anyone. I wish
him success,” says a village native Capt.(Rtd) Aravindakshan.
It's not just this village in Thrissur that's rooting for Siyab.
Residents say he is a source of inspiration for all who want to achieve
something in life, despite odds stacked heavily against them.
