Rashtriya Yuva Sashaktikaran Karyakram
- Rashtriya Yuva Sashaktikaran Karyakram (RYSK) is an ongoing central sector program that was formulated as a framework program in a rationalization measure carried out on the recommendation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel Development and in consultation with the Ministry of Finance and NITI Aayog.
- The aim was that the merger of the schemes under an umbrella scheme would effectively leverage the administrative structure of the scheme for effective implementation of the programmes.
- The budget allocation of the scheme RYSK for the year 2020-21 is Rs.486.48 Crores.
The 7 sub-schemes under scheme RYSK are:
- Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.
- National Youth Corps.
- National Programme for Youth and Adolescent Development.
- International Cooperation.
- Youth Hostels.
- Assistance to Scouting and Guiding Organisations.
- National Young Leaders Programme.
National Safety Council
- S.N. Subrahmanyanhas been appointed as Chairman of the National Safety Council.
- The National Safety Council(NSC) will assist DGFASLI in re-writing the regulations governing OSH in the country which have not been updated for over 50 years.
- The NSC will also be involved in framing the scheme for third party audit and certification under the OSH Code.
- The NSC is already working on establishments’ safety rating based on their OSH readiness and performance, which can be extended through the country and linked to the inspection system.

World Cancer Day
- India Post, Mumbai Region, in partnership with Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai, publishes a special cover on World Cancer Day (February 4th).
About:
- To save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and urging governments to take action against cancer Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to helping the global health community accelerate the fight against cancer.
- It was founded in 1933 and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. World Cancer Day was adopted by the Paris Charter at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris in 2000.
- The campaign is a powerful call to action, urging personal commitment and showing the power of individual action now being taken be to influence the future.
Walking While Trans law
- New York Governor signed a bill repealing a controversial law known as the “Walking While Trans” ban, which has been widely criticised for disproportionately discriminating against transgender people of colour.
- The move was welcomed by LGBTQI+activists, advocates and legislators who have been pushing for the ban to be revoked for years now.
What is the controversial ‘Walking While Trans’ law?
- ‘Walking While Trans’ ban is the colloquial name for a law, which was originally passed in 1976 with the intention of prohibiting loitering for the purpose of prostitution.
- It allows New York police to arrest or apprehend someone walking on the street if they suspect that they are sex workers.

Gobardhan scheme
- Ministry of Jal Shakti launched a unified portal on Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (Gobar Dhan) scheme.
- Under new unified approach, all biogas programmes/schemes will be coordinated by Department of DrinkingWater and Sanitation under Swachh Bharat Mission - Gramin (SBMG).
- Gobardhan scheme is being implemented as part of the SBMG.
- It is an important element of achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) strategy.
- It aims to support villages in effectively manage their cattle and biodegradable waste.
- The scheme focus on keeping villages clean, increasing income of rural households, and generation of energy from cattle waste.
::SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY::
James Webb SpaceTelescope
- The Webb Telescope, NASA’s golden surfer, is almost ready, again.
- It is an orbiting infrared observatory which is planned to be launched in October 2021.
- It will complement discoveries of Hubble space telescope of NASA, with longer wavelength coverage and improved sensitivity.
- It will study every phase in the history of Universe, ranging from Big Bang to the evolution of our Solar System.
- It is an international collaboration between NASA, European Space Agency, and Canadian Space Agency.
