RSS Affiliated coaching institute Samkalp mentors IAS aspirants

Against the perception that Rashtriya Swayemsewak Sangh (RSS) produces only swayemsewaks, motor-mouths or right wing leaders, its affiliated coaching institute Samkalp has continued to give the nation its fair share of IAS officers too.

The number of IAS officers who have taken some help from Samkalp has now reached approximately 450. The figure is shared by the New Delhi chapter, tracing the time the institute began its journey in 1986. After churning out so many IAS officers, Samkalp's outside chapter has now opened in Agra. Fresh batch of aspirants is consulting the Agra chapter since January.

The coaching has been attended by aspirants at various levels. Some come to attend the interview training programme, while others visit libraries or attend classes, an RSS man at Delhi chapter told TOI.

Besides IAS, there are around 4,000 officers who cleared around 24 exams conducted by the UPSC thanks to Samkalp, the RSS source added. The coaching also had centres at Kanpur and Roorkie, but they have for some time now they have only been serving as guiding centres.

The idea, says Pramod Chauhan, a chartered accountant by profession and one of the contact persons at Agra chapter is to help civil aspirants with not only guidance but food, lodging, interview training too at a reasonable price unlike the plethora of private coaching institutes that charge exorbitantly.

Besides, 10 batches run in New Delhi presently and one in Agra, one batch each is undergoing training at Jaipur, Bhopal, Bhilai and Ludhiana.

Among mentors on top of the list are former Jammu and Kashmir governor and ex-cabinet minister Jag Mohan. Others on the list include industrialist Jai Prakash Agrawal. There are 11 others including several retired IAS and former Lt Governors.
