post office in Panchkula's Sector 8 had an unusual liveliness to it on Thursday.
And all the attention was directed towards one of the employees, Neelam Uppal.
Clad in a celebratory mustard 'salwaar-kameez', she looked every bit the happy
mother of Deepti, a content writer who has secured the 81st rank in UPSC
''The phone hasn't stopped ringing,'' she said, just before
taking another congratulatory call from a well-wisher, one she said she hadn't
heard from in a long time. ''People who come to post office regularly also
called to share their happiness over Deepti's success,'' the proud mother
Pouring heaps of praise over her daughter, Neelam, a resident
of Panchkula's Sector 12, said, ''It's time for society to finally realize that
girls are in no way inferior to boys.'' Sending a strong message against female
foeticide, she added, ''This is a lesson for those residing in the rural areas
of Haryana and Punjab to treat girls at par with boys.''
