UPSC panel to look into 'English' rule

he Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which conducts IAS examinations, on Tuesday told the Bombay high court that it had set up an experts' committee to look into the rule that says a candidate who had written the papers in English, had to appear for the interview in the same language.

UPSC's counsel advocate Rui Rodrigues said the panel would submit its recommendations in three months. The court was hearing a petition filed by an IAS aspirant, who cleared the written tests of the 2008 UPSC exams—which he took in English— but failed in the interview. He claimed that he should have been allowed to take the interview in Hindi.
