An urbanising India with rapid economic growth , the importance of ascriptive identities such as caste and religion is gradually eroding and opposing view holds that these biases have remained resilient in India, even in the face of substantial economic development and increasingly heterogeneous cities. Comment.

2Q. The new government in Colombo, and the stronger political dispensation in New Delhi, have the room to explore the prospects for an accommodation of each other’s interests. Discuss.
