(Success Story) UPSC 2021 TOPPER, AIR-25 Shruti Rajlakshmi Share Strategy To Crack UPSC Exams

Shruti Rajlakshmi has secured the 25th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2021. She is a native of Ranchi. It was her second attempt. She had given her first attempt when she was in the last semester of her college, but couldn’t even qualify for the prelims exam because of lack of preparation. Shruti relied more on self study and did not join any coaching institute for the preparation of the UPSC exam. During an interview by the media she said, "She wants to work to connect tribal products with new technology and also wants to work in the field of health. She believes that the village people should also get the benefits of development and more work is needed to ensure that all government schemes reach them".

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND HER UPSC JOURNEY

She did her schooling from Jamshedpur and completed her Intermediate from New Delhi. After that she completed her graduation in Computer Science from IIT BHU Banaras in the year 2019. After graduation, she was working in a corporate company at a lucrative salary. Later she decided to quit her job and prepare for Civil Services, one of the toughest examinations in the country. She chose Anthropology as her optional subject.

SHRUTI RAJLAKSHMI'S UPSC PREPARATION STRATEGY

CHOOSE THE OPTIONAL SUBJECT CAREFULLY

Shruti advised the aspirants to be wise while choosing your optional subject. Wrong choice of optional subject plays a major role in being unable to clear UPSC Mains exam. She said, the interest that you have in a subject is one of the criteria that should be given primacy. Other important aspects for choosing the right optional include having enough study materials and proper guidance from seniors and teachers.

CONSISTENCY IS  KEY

Shruti said, it doesn’t matter what you can do in a day, long term success comes from things that you can do everyday consistently. When consistency breaks, we fall off the track. Set daily, weekly and monthly goals. Go easy on yourself. In the long run, doing 2 hours of study is better than doing nothing. Gradually, build that up to 10 hours of study. It may take 1, 2 or 3 weeks or even a month. Shruti said,

She also made a strategy that was unique to her own strengths and weaknesses.

USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

She said balancing studies with the use of online platforms is very important for better performance. She restricted herself from social media, and took the help of the internet when she had a doubt to clear. She said, if you do not have control over yourself, and then stay away from mobile phones during preparation. It is not that work cannot work without a mobile.

ADOPT THE RIGHT WAY OF REVISION

Shruti advised the aspirants revise daily, in smaller slots twice or thrice in a day and also allocate revision slots subject wise. When you start to allocate exclusive revision slots to similar subjects, recall and retention become a lot easier to achieve. You must take multiple mock tests. When you give a Mock test, you will not only realize your present level of growth, but also get an opportunity to manage time and stress of the examination before the D-day arrives.

At last Shruti advised the aspirants to practice self evaluation. Ask yourself what you are doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.

Shruti wishes you all the best. Good luck.

Own your dream.

(Success Story) UPSC 2021 TOPPER, AIR-24 Pusapati Sahitya Share Strategy To Crack UPSC Exams

Pusapati Sahitya has secured the 24th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2021. She is a native of Vizag. Her UPSC life was quite struggling because she took seven years to clear this exam. She cracked the exam in her sixth attempt. Speaking about failures, she mentioned that every failure is a stepping-stone for success and students should accept it with grace and move on in life.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

She did her schooling at DAV Public School and her intermediate in a corporate college in Vizag. Sahitya started preparing for the civil service exams in 2015. She did her Master's in pharmacy in the United States. She worked as a junior scientist at New Jersey before attempting Civil Service for the sixth time via the UPSC.

 PUSAPATI SAHITYA'S UPSC PREPARATION STRATEGY

MAKE A WELL PLANNED STRATEGY

Having a preparation strategy during the UPSC preparation days is a must for every serious aspirant. A robust and well-planned strategy helps in completing the UPSC Syllabus on time and it also gives the student ample room for revision before the final UPSC Exam.

START YOUR PREPARATION IN AN INTEGRATED MANNER

She said, until her fourth attempt she didn't do the preparation in an integrated manner. She used to study prelims and mains separately. She was more focused about Prelims. After that she changed her strategy and started her preparation in an integrated manner. She used to solve quizzes for prelims, writing two or three mains questions daily.  It helped her to build her competence. Further, she joined a test series and solved full length papers once a week. It helped her a lot. She advised the aspirants, never do segregated study except for a few months before the prelims examination, where one needs to practice only mocks and revise.

READ NEWSPAPERS  AND MAGAZINES

Pusapati said, never compromise with your newspaper or magazine reading. It keeps you in touch with the current perspective. Utilize your time in reading relevant articles as this helps you to enhance your reading and writing skills.

OPTIONAL STRATEGY

She chose Zoology as her optional subject. However, during the initial years of preparation it had turned into a nightmare! Eventually she understood the pattern and how to manage the vast Syllabus. She did the study of the basics of zoology concepts from different standard text books and further supplemented it with handwritten or printed materials for zoology available in the market. She also took help from KAJAL JAWLA’s (AIR 28, 2018) online notes. Pusapati advised the aspirants to choose their optional carefully.

At last she said after a point of time, this preparation can get exhausting and difficult but you have only to remain quiet and focus on your goal. "Do not leave till we attain our goal".

(Success Story) UPSC 2021 TOPPER, AIR-23 Ashish Strategy for Cracking UPSC Exams

(Success Story) UPSC 2021 TOPPER, AIR-22 Ashish Strategy for Cracking UPSC Exams

Ashish has secured the 23rd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2021. He is a native of Patna. He cracked the exam in his first attempt. After graduation, Ashish got the job. But soon he realized that he could not dedicate time to pursue his passion. Therefore he quit his job and started full time preparation for CSE and topped the exam with flying colours. During an interview by India Today when the question was asked why he chose civil services, he replied

“The most important was that a civil service was one of the most promising sectors in which I could get career out of working at the grass root level at least in the past few years. I think this was my primary motivation. There were other careers also with this type of profile but in the longer I thought that I was suited to this kind of service”.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND HIS UPSC JOURNEY

In 2013, he was selected for IIT. He has completed his Mechanical Engineering degree from IIT BHU, Banaras. After that, he worked in a Multinational Company for 3 years in Pune. Ashish wanted to prepare for the UPSC exam, so he left the job and started his preparation. He chose Sociology as his optional subject. In a very first attempt he cracked the exam with AIR 23rd and made his parents proud.

ASHISH UPSC PREPARATION STRATEGY

GIVE YOUR PREPARATION A CLEAR DIRECTION

Ashish said, in his very first attempt, he had a clear direction. Ashish urges aspirants to study from a limited source of materials and says that wherever possible stick to the tried and tested textbooks only. When you are studying, you must cross-check with the syllabus to ensure that they are covering everything in it.

MAKE THE NOTES, ITS BETTER FOR YOU

Ashish said, many aspirants make the mistake that they don't making notes. This may prove to be a costly mistake.  Ashish said he made notes for the GS paper as well as his optional paper. Aspirants also must have a ready reckoner they can keep going back to. During the revision stages, it would be important to only go through the notes and not go back to the source materials. Having to recall points from different sources while attempting the paper is not advisable and having all the notes collated in one place is always helpful in answer writing.

APPROACH THE EXAM  WITH A CLEAR MIND

He advised the aspirants, just focus on the exam and not thinks of ‘what if’ scenarios. In stress, it is difficult to apply intelligent guesses, extended concept application, examples usage to solve prelims questions, etc. The examination requires you to be completely invested in the preparation and not have a wavering mind. Do not make mistakes in the questions, for which you know the concept.

At last Ashish advised the aspirants to make their own strategy based on your personality. Don't blindly follow to others.

Conquer yourself and the whole universe is yours.

Ashish wishes you all the best for your preparation. Good luck.
