About Coast Guard: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is one of four branches of the Indian Armed Forces, tasked with the mission to guard the Republic of India's maritime interests. The Indian Coast Guard's organization is similar to that of other Para Military Forces of India. It was created on 18 August 1978 as an independent entity as per the Coast Guard Act. It operates under the effective control of the Ministry of Defense.

The ICG mission is to protect India's maritime interests, including its coastline, exclusive economic zone and shipping. It is also tasked with Indian maritime law enforcement relating to ocean resources, shipping, customs and revenue, maritime environment, protected species as well as narcotics.

The coast guard works in close cooperation with the Indian Navy, Indian department of Fisheries, Department of Revenue (Customs) and the Central and State Police forces. The ICG is generally headed by a naval officer of the rank of Vice-Admiral.

Eligibility criteria: Candidate should be between 21-25 years of age. Also a candidate should have got a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics and Maths as subjects in Class 12th.

Physical Requirements:
Height: Height should be atleast 157 cms
Chest: Should be well developed with minimum expansion of 5 cm
Weight: Minimum 45 kg
Eye Sight:6/6 and 6/9(bad eye)

How to Apply: Admission notification is released twice a year in in the Employment News and all leading National/Regional Newspapers. Candidates can either send a handwritten/typed application form(on an A4 size paper) according to the format given in the admission notification or download the application form from the website- www.indiancoastguard.nic.in

Selection Criteria: Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination, sporting achievements and NCC. Shortlisted candidates are called for Preliminary Selection where a mental ability test(general intelligence, general awareness and reasoning) is conducted. Candidates qualifying Preliminary selection have to appear in Final Selection which consists of Psychological Test, Group Testing and Interview (Personality Test). Selected candidates have to undergo a medical fitness test.
