The electronics industry which emerged in the 20th century has become a global industry worth billions of dollars with products ranging from simple consumer products to highly complicated devices. The field of electronics is now a meta resource that can be converged with a wide spectrum of applications. Electronics items are no more than just a product for direct consumption but are 'enabler' for improving the productivity and efficiency of other manufacturing sectors. The industry has the potential of creating enormous employment opportunities and helps in the spread of education and health care through ICT to both rural and urban areas as well as implementing e-Governance. Its growth has direct impact on the socio-economic development of the country and determining its competitiveness. India is one of the largest consumers of electronic products globally. What is needed is for both Government and industry to focus on meeting the increasing domestic demand.
