NEWS : UPSC result: Bihari candidates once again explode myth:

As every year boys and girls from Bihar have done well in the Union Public Service Commission examination 2007. In all 734 candidates have been selected for various central services. The candidates from the state have once again exploded the myth that only Biharis studying out of the state can do better as most of them who qualified have got their entire education in Bihar. In one case two candidates from the same class of Patna University qualified.

If Nandkumaram Jha, who has his root in Lagma village of Ghanshyampur block of Darbhanga district, secured eighth, Mita Sarangi from East Champaran district got 15th rank. In fact she secured first among women candidates of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Ranjit Kumar Singh of Phatikwara under Desri police station of Vaishali district secured 49th rank. He vowed not to visit his village unless he qualifies UPSC. Thus the last time he visited the village was six years back. Son of Ram Tahal Singh and Mahadevi Patel he did his schooling from Desri and I Sc from Patna Science College. He did his BA in History from Patna University.

While Nandkumaram Jha passed his 10th from DAV School, Deoghar, he got engineering degree in Petroleum from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanabad. Though he secured 240th rank in 2006 he contined to work in the Oil and Natural Gas Commission and tried his luck once again a year later. His father Adyanand Jha is an employee of the Food Corporation of India while his mother is Meena Jha.

Mita is doing her PhD in Sociology from Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi, where her husband, Kanihar Kant, also works.

Another girl candidate, who did exceedingly well is Neelima. She ranked 23rd. In fact she cleared UPSC last year but could get Indian Audit and Accounts Service. Daughter of retired superintending engineer, Gulab Prasad Shah and Pushpa Devi she did his Inter from Magadh Mahila College, BA from Patna College and MA from Patna University.

Incidentally his class-mate in the PG, Amit Kumar, also secured 89th position. Amit was the topper in the post-graduation examination. Amit, who did his schooling from Catholic High School, Ara, is the son of Arjun Prasad, deputy secretary, department of finance and Shiv Kumari Devi. He did his graduation from Patna University.

Like Mita there is another boy from East Champaran who cracked the prestigious examination. Kunal Kashyap, who got 371th rank, is the son of a banker, Umesh Chandra Prasad.
