UPSC changes will hit rural students: Mukhyamantri Chandru
Disallowing candidates to write the civil services exam in their regional language will disadvantage rural students, Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said. In a letter written to the Prime Minister, and the chairperson and secretary of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Mr. Chandru said the changes made to the main exam pattern are a “severe setback to the candidates who want to write the exams in a .… regional language .… particularly Kannada-medium students hailing from rural parts of the State. In the name of globalisation and liberalisation, the UPSC is encouraging English and Hindi,” he said. “It should reconsider its decision and treat all regional languages on a par with English,” he added.
