News : Allahabad Hosted Second Highest Number IAS Aspirants after Delhi via TOI
The arduous journey to join the much-coveted Indian Administrative Service (IAS) this year is set to commence with the preliminary examination scheduled on May 17. The task has certainly become more uphill this year with a record over four lakh candidates appearing at the exams. Allahabad has the distinction of hosting the second highest number of aspirants, after Delhi, at 30,071.
Out of the 13 regular examinations conducted throughout the country by UPSC, the Civil Services Prelims exam is the largest in terms of number of candidates appearing as also number of centres and sub-centres. This year a total of 4,10,000 applications were received, to be seated in 1,000 venues spread across 45 centres/cities all over India.
In Uttar Pradesh, four districts/centres have been selected namely Allahabad, Lucknow, Bareilly and Aligarh. Examination is going to be conducted at 65 venues in Allahabad district, informed Allahabad DM Rajiv Aggarwal and coordinating supervisor for Allahabad. The district has been divided into four zones and 16 sectors for security and supervision purposes. Three observers have been appointed by UPSC viz. the divisional commissioners of Allahabad, Mirzapur and Chitrakoot, to maintain an overall vigil, he added.
The examination will be conducted in two sessions. The first paper from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m. is the optional subject while the second session from 2.30 to 4.30 p.m. is the common paper on General Studies. With an aim to provide congenial and reasonably comfortable environment, venues have to meet the minimum requirements as specified by UPSC, which includes good seats and desks, proper lighting, good ventilation and fans, availability of good drinking water and access to clean toilets.
