X-ray — Making Invisible Visible
- Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen, a German physicist discovered the X-ray in 1895 accidentally while observing whether cathode rays could escape through a glass tube having black covering. Suddenly he noticed a glow coming out from the covered glass tube giving new insights into the discovery.
- As the glow was unknown he dubbed it “X-ray” and on further investigation found that these new X-rays could penetrate the human flesh which could then be photographed and visualised. The year 2020 marks the 125 years of the discovery of X-ray for which Rontgen won the Nobel Prize in 1901.
