Promoting a Culture of Innovations in India
INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) and INSPIRE-MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge)
- The Department of Science and T e c h n o l o g y (DST) manages this scheme to inspire youth to pursue science.
- The scheme encourages the young generation to pursue a college or university education in the basic and natural sciences, and also motivates them to pursue research careers in applied and basic sciences.
- The scheme offers INSPIRE Internship, Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE), INSPIRE Fellowship and INSPIRE Faculty Fellowship.
Strengthening, Upscaling & Nurturing Local Innovations for Livelihood (SUNIL) Programme
- A part of Science for Equity, Empowerment & Development (SEED, DST), the SUNIL programme [formerly Technological Advancement for Rural Areas (TARA)], provides technology delivery and social enterprise development models for economically weaker sections of society.
- It also includes need-based & action-oriented research projects to identify local and systemic solutions to implementing science and technology-based projects in communities.
- Furthermore, it also promotes the enhancement of scientific and technological knowledge, skill development, and capacity building.
A Scheme for Promotion of Innovation, Rural Industries and Entrepreneurship (ASPIRE)
- ASPIRE is an initiative of the Government of India’s Ministry of MSME to set up a network of technology centres and incubation centres to promote entrepreneurship and agro-industry innovation.
- This programme’s main objectives include creating new jobs and reducing unemployment, promoting entrepreneurship culture in India, supporting grassroots economic development, facilitating innovative business solutions for unmet social needs, and strengthening the competitiveness of micro and small and medium-sized enterprises.
National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations (NIDHI)
- Through NIDHI, DST fosters knowledge-based and technology-driven innovations into successful startups.
- To build an innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem with a focus on socioeconomic development through the creation of wealth and jobs, the programme works to align with national priorities and goals.
Promoting Innovations in Individuals, Startups and MSMEs (PRISM)
- Through this scheme by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), individual innovators can receive grants, technical assistance, and mentoring to transform their ideas into successful new enterprises. It also assists technology solution providers in developing technology solutions aimed at helping MSME clusters.
Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB)
- To promote science and engineering basic research, SERB, DST, supports individuals involved in such research by providing financial aid. SERB supports research in emerging and frontier fields of science and engineering through schemes like SERB-SUPRA, SERB-FIRE, SERBPOWER, etc.
Department of Space
- Atma Nirbhar Bharat ARISE-ANIC program is a national initiative to promote research & innovation and increase competitiveness of Indian startups and MSMEs.
- The objective is to catalyse research, innovation and facilitate innovative solutions to sectoral problems. The objective is also to provide a steady stream of innovative products & solutions where the Central Government Ministries / Departments will become the potential first buyers.
- Space Enterprise Encouragement & Development (SEED) is envisaged as a competitive early stage encouragement program to innovative small business concerns/start-ups, interested in developing products/services in focus areas of interest to ISRO..
