Coaching Academies For IAS, IPS in Every District

On competitive exams: A.M. Kasi Viswanathan, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, addressing the students of the Government Arts College for Men in Krishnagiri on Friday.

Creation of coaching academies for IAS, IPS in every district is the need of the hour, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Chairman A.M. Kasi Viswanathan said here on Friday.

Mr. Viswanathan inaugurated the Krishnagiri Rural IAS Study Academy at Government Arts College for Men in Krishnagiri. He also launched the web page of the academy, www.krishnagiri.tn.nic.in, at the Collectorate.

On the sidelines of the function, Mr. Viswanathan told journalists that such academies would help rural students compete with their urban counterparts.

“It is the prerogative of the respective Collectors to seek such centres in their districts,” he said.

Thirty-five out of 165 candidates were selected through a written test on Monday. Candidates had come from different parts of the district and from neighbouring Karnataka.

Later, speaking at an awareness programme on competitive examinations held at the college auditorium, he said hard work and continuous effort alone could bring desired results. He advised students to study at least 12 hours a day and added that reading newspapers, magazines, watching news on TV would enhance their general knowledge.

Most of the rural students lacked information about TNPSC and other competitive examinations, he said.

He spoke about various opportunities with Central and State governments through various recruitment boards.

He said that the TNPSC was taking utmost care in setting question papers and evaluating answer sheets. A person can approach TNPSC and verify his/her answer sheets in case of a doubt. Mr. Viswanathan also cautioned candidates against touts. He also replied to questions from students and lecturers.

In his felicitation speech, Directorate of Collegiate Education Joint Director N. Ramamurthy said that government colleges which had IAS study centres would qualify for autonomous status. Only a few colleges in the State had such study centres.

Collector V.K. Shanmugam presided over the function. Government Arts College for Men principal V.M. Selvaraj welcomed the gathering. Tamil Department head N. Palanivelu proposed a vote of thanks.

Mr. Viswanathan also took part in an awareness programme on competitive examinations at Government Arts College in Dharmapuri in the afternoon. Collector P. Amutha presided over the programme.
