Success Story : Sharandeep Kaur Brar ranked second over all in UPSC

When the results for the UPSC Civil Services examinations were declared on Monday, three students from the city had special reasons to celebrate: they bagged three of the top national ranks. Newsline profiles the trio for having successfully aced an exam that many hold as the toughest nut to crack in the country.

Sharandeep Kaur Brar (Second overall)
A PhD scholar with a Masters Degree in psychology from Panjab University, Sharandeep’s academic record is studded with stellar achievements: over 90 per cent marks in both Class X and XII, topping the first year MSc and second position in the final year.

Talking to Newsline from Shimla, Sharandeep said: “It was my childhood dream to become an IAS officer. Though last year’s rank of 443 disheartened me, the support and love of my parents kept me going.”

Acknowledging the highs and lows of her preparatory phase, Sharandeep stresses on the importance of yoga.
