(Success Story) UPSC 2022 TOPPER, AIR- 8: ANIRUDH YADAV SUCCESS STORY AND TIPS



Anirudh Yadav has secured the 8th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2022. He is a native of Delhi. This was his fourth attempt. He cleared the UPSC exam in his first and second attempts also. In his first attempt, he joined the railway personnel, and after the second attempt, he joined the information service. Finally, in the 4th attempt he bagged 8th rank, scored 1051 marks in the exam. His biggest inspiration was his father (retired IPS officer) and brother (IAS officer). 

Educational background

He completed his schooling from the Sanskriti School. After that he completed his engineering degree in biochemical engineering and biotechnology from IIT Delhi. He started his preparation after the graduation. He didn't join any coaching classes. He chooses Anthropology as his optional subject. He used to study 16 to 17 hours per day.

His preparation strategy

Understand the syllabus thoroughly

Syllabus is the soul of UPSC exam. He advised the aspirants to take a printout of the syllabus and paste it. Syllabus helps to have an understanding of what to read, what not to read, and what are the sources that one needs to refer to. With the help of syllabus aspirants break up each topic into subtopics and refer relevant specific sources for each topic. After that do the analysis of previous year question papers. 

Consistency and maintaining discipline

Anirudh believes that key to crack the UPSC exam is Consistency and discipline. No matter how much hardworking you are, how much talented you are, if there is no consistency in your preparation you will either fail or unnecessarily prolong this journey making it stressful and frustrating. Consistency is very crucial for this exam and eventually it will lead you to success.

Consolidate your study material

Anirudh was very careful about the study materials. He always use to choose relevant study materials and consolidated them. He revised them as many times as he could. He believed in 3 R's Read, Revise and Re-Revise. He also prepared the short notes for the last moment revision. He also advised the aspirants that they can read and re-read the previous UPSC PRELIMS PAPERS as well as MAINS PAPERS many times to get an understanding of UPSC pattern and it will really help. Do practice mock test more and more. 

Apart from my UPSC preparation, Anirudh have a keen interest in sports activities. He likes to play squash. He also enjoys spending time with friends, going out for dinners. Anirudh advised the aspirants that they must have consistency and should not be hopeless if they could not make it on the very 1st attempt. There are more attempts ahead. He wants to work for rural areas, such as women’s empowerment, water and sanitation, and agriculture.
