• Raytheon engineer, Percy LeBaron Spencer was working with a magnetron, which produces microwave radiation. 
• He was standing beside the magnetron and noticed that a chocolate bar in his pocket had melted. 
• He tested other food items also by keeping them near the magnetron eventually leading to the invention of the microwave oven in 1945.
