  • An engineer from Buffalo, New York, Wilson Greatbatch, accidentally invented the first implantable cardiac pacemaker which revolutionized the medical field and has saved millions of lives. 
  • He was working on the heart sound monitoring instrument and had mistakenly positioned a transistor that was multiple times more powerful than the ones he generally used in the instrument.
  • He found the electrical heartbeats very similar to the human heartbeat.
  • He visualised that this new invention could be utilised as a pacemaker and spent some more time to making it implantable inside a patient’s body.
