Ultra Metal-poor (UMP) Star with lowest carbon abundance discovered
- The (UMP) star was spotted by narrow-band S-PLUS photometry and confirmed by medium- and high-resolution spectroscopy. The recently discovered star was found to have the lowest carbon abundance among the ultra-metal-poor stars so far identified.
- This revelation opens the chance of discovering extra UMP stars directly from narrow-band photometric surveys, a possibly incredible technique to help total the stock of such unconventional items in our Galaxy.
