I am vivek kumar.I passed out my engineering in june 2009 from Birla Institute of Technology,Mesra(B.I.T,mesra,ranchi) and I am a civil services aspirant.Right now,I am residing in Ghansoli,Navi mumbai.As I am from engineering background,I dont have much exposure how to prepare for civil service examination.Through my analysis I have selected Public administration and sociology as my optional subjects.I am sure about my aptitute in public administration,but I am really confused to choose between sociology and pshycology or history.So, I request you to please enlighten me on this regard as which will be the best combination with public administration. I also request you to please send me list of books for preparation of Public administration,sociology and pshycology and History with detailed analysis of syllabus and tips. I am working in a good software company but I have a great fire within me for UPSC.This has been my dream since my childhood.I am planning to take examination in year 2011.As, due to time constraints, I wont be able to join a full time coaching class,i request you to please provide me list of good corresspondence courses(standard coachings).I know, I bother you too much,but kindly do reply at the earliest.It is already half past may, I am lagging.Your help and guidence will be highly welcomed. As far as i have browsed through the net, i can say that public admin and history is a giood combo. sociology personally i feel is a bit boring to study. but anyways depends on ur interest. As far as the books go... highly recommended, first in the list are NCERT books for class 10th to 12th for history. not sure about public admin though.

Hi, As far as i have browsed through net and gathered some info. i should say tht History and Public admin is a good combo. and for history best books to begin with is NCERT class 10th to calss12th books.

Hi, This is prashanth. I want to give my upsc exams during the year 2011. I learnt that the pattern has changed. An aptitude exam has been put in place of GS and 1 Optional subject in Prelims. Can you please tell me how will be the pattern of the aptitude test. and how do we start with the preparation for that? which books can be referred?

my friend had cleared scra 2010 but he hasnt yet left his previous college i.e. nsit that too computer engg..He is not satisfied there with IRMEE(scra) and wants to come back but then again he feels he would be losing on a class1 govt job .He is very confused.Pls advice what to do, wether he could stay with mechanical engineering there or pursue computer engineering from nsit,which is one of the best engineering colleges in the country. please reply soon
