Hi, I am an mechanical engineering graduate and working in software company since three years. I feel more comfortable with numbers, logics, scientific facts, strategies and parallely get afraid of history, names, dates, data and poor in current affairs. I appeared for last year preliminary exam with geo as subject, however, due to lack of subject completion, low confidence and poor GS & current affairs, I could not go through it. I had in mind of keeping geo & psychology as my mains subjects, but now have feeling that I cant complete these vast subjects. Therefore, I am reconsidering my subject combination for mains this year. And I need help in choosing subjects this time sincerely. As syllabus has changed, 2nd paper would be little easier for science back ground students. I have couple of friends who are suggesting to have Anthorpology & Pub Adm. as best subject combination. I am currently in Hyderabad. I need help from experts in choosing the subjects. I want to choose subjects which should be not too lengthly to complete in limited time and which would have only facts, figures, dates, and memorizing things. I want to choose based on logical reading, flow in subjects, interesting to read because of patter and facts, little scientific approachable and need lesser time to complete. Can any one suggest me on this. Ashok

u realised and good in assesing u r potentials , coming to electives good and suitable combintion for learning & scoring. both the subjects are having core concepts if u master once in it it will be easy for u.best of luck

Hi Sujan, Thanks for your words....going forward, just had one more change, if I go for Mathematics and Anthropology, would it be more helping or difficult? Being an engineering background, I loved Mathematics, and found couple of motivating as well as fearing comments on choosing this paper as mains. Though many says, its nit scoring, on the other hand, the mains papers says, it can be little tricky and hard work if one like this subject. Please comment, if any one have any knowledge on it...Ashok

Hi everyone . I am B-Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering .I am a IAS aspirant and have mere knowledge about it .would anyone suggest me the subject combinations that would be preferable for me in the IAS exam .

can u help me in choose the subjets in civils.

in civils no one can help in choosing the subjects , if u go through the institutions they will provide some subjects and asks u to take this subjects only , if u have good grip in subjects given by upsc choose it and fight untill ur aim is reached and never give up the the subject u have taken and fight for another subject .

I am currently in FYJC and aspire to become an IPS officer. I know enough information regarding the UPSC exams(except the name of required books). But before giving my IPS I wish to join some other Police Branch, preferably the CID. I don't know how to start preparing. Also I want to know that if I want to become an Inspector,do I have to wait for a promotion for 5 years after giving my Sub-Inspector Examination or are there separate exams held for becoming an Inspector ? I don't want to wait for so much time. Also inform me a little about the Foundation Course. What books should I start studying?I am really very passionate about it!Please help!
