The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2007 on 18th May, 2008 for recruitment the 671 posts of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and certain other Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ Central Services / Posts.

Eligibility:

  • Age : Not less than 21 years and not more than 30 years as on 01/08/2008. The upper age is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC and certain other categories of candidates to the extent specified in the Notice.

  • Educational Qualification: Degree of a recognised university or an equivalent qualification.

  • Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the Regulations given in notice.
  • Number of Attempts: The maximum number of attempts permissible to different categories of aspirants, who are otherwise eligible will be as follows:

    • General Category : Four
    • OBC : Seven
    • SC / ST : No Limit

Application Form: The candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/ Post offices throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/- only.

Fee: Rs.50/- through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST/PH candidates are exempted from payment (OBC candidates required to pay full fee).

How To Apply: All applications must reach the “Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi-110069” either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by courier on or before the 28th January, 2008.

Candidates can obtain details of the examination and can get information about registration of their applications, venues of the examination and syllabus etc at the website of the UPSC at http://upsc.gov.in/ or see details in Employment News dated 29/12/2008.

If you dont mind.... My advice to you is - there is no need of any type of coaching for civil services if you have confidence up on you and dedicated yourself to do hard work.However to guide us ,this upsc portal is more than enough..

I m a B.Tech in Information Technology. And will to write IAS next year. But I m not able to choose optional subjects.

As per my are of interest in subject, I m having a computer background. All subjects are same for me. I can go for any subject. Bcoz I need to start from the basic.

Would you please tell me that which subject should be taken I have to do a self study. I like self study instead of joining coaching..

you may choose the subject you felt comfortable from goegraphy,politics,public administration,sociology or even science subjects if you could manage.I'm also an MCA.I have chosen Geography as my first optional.

Iam pankaj sharma. I had done my graduation (BSC) in 2005, presentally iam doing job at BADDI( HIMACHAL PRADESH) And also doing MBA in HR managment. i want to do IAS, but i don't know that what type of subjects i want to choose for it and how could i prepare for the exams, i am also don't aware about the type of books required for the preparation of the IAS exams so please help me.
