GEOLOGISTS’ EXAMINATION, 2013
No.4/1/2013-E.I(B) : A competitive examination for recruitment to the posts
mentioned in para 2 below will be held by the Union Public Service Commission
commencing from the 9th November, 2013 in accordance with the Rules published by
the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India dated the 24th August, 2013 at
the following centres.
Category I : (Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines).
(i) Geologist, Group “A” 50
(ii) Assistant Geologist Grade-I 25
(Group 'B') Category II : (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board,
Ministry of Water Resources)
(i) Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist B),
Group “A” 33
(ii) Assistant Hydrogeologists,
Group “B” 39
A candidate must be either :
(a) a Citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with
the intention of permanently settling in India.
Age Limits : A candidate for this examination must have attained the
age criteria as prescribed below:-
(a) (i) For Geologist [Group A] and Assistant Geologist Gr. I
[Gr.B] in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines:- Must have attained
the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st
August, 2013 i.e. he/ she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1981
and not later than 1st August 1992.
(ii) For Jr. Hydrogeologist (Scientist B) (Group A) in
Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources:- Must have attained the
age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 35 years on 1st August,
2013 i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1981 and not
later than 1st August, 1992.
(iii) For Asstt. Hydrogeologist (Group B) in Central Ground
Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources:- Must have attained the age of 21
years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2013 i.e.
he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1983 and not later than
1st August, 1992.
Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/ PH who are exempted from
payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only)
either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net
banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/ State Bank of
Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/ State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore
or by using Visa/Master Credit/ Debit Card.
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION:
1. The examination shall be conducted according to the following Plan :
Part I. - Written examination in the subjects as set out in para 2
Part II. - Interview for personality Test of such candidates as may be
called by the Commission, carrying a maximum of 200 marks.
2. The following will be the subjects for the written examination :
|1) General English
|2) Geology Paper I
|3) Geology Paper II
|4) Geology Paper III

Application Form have been given in Appendix-II. Detailed instructions are
