SUCCESS STORY AND WINNING STRATEGY OF 

UPSC 2022 TOPPER AIR 1: ISHITA KISHORE

 

Ishita Kishore has secured the AIR 1st in the UPSC Civil Services examination 2022. She is a native of Hyderabad but later moved to Delhi. She could not clear the prelims in her previous attempts. This was her third attempt. She worked hard and bagged the first spot securing All India Rank 1 with a total of 1094 marks. 

During an interview by The Times of India, she said 

"Getting selected for the UPSC civil services is a big deal. I am very happy to have been given this opportunity to serve this country. Overall, I just have a lot of gratitude".

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

She completed her graduation from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics. She chooses Political Science and International Relations as her optional subjects. She had prepared for this examination from home itself. Following her graduation, she worked with Ernst & Young in the risk advisory department. She has been an all rounder performer since her school and has been an active sportsperson. She was involved in multiple sports including basketball, football, taekwondo, and others. 

During an interview by Aajtak she said, she used to give around 7-8 hours of preparation in a day. 

“If you are taking the big decision to take civil services exams, no matter how intelligent you are, you have to put in the hours, and you have to put in the work."

PREPARATION STRATEGY

RIGHT GUIDANCE

UPSC is a long journey, sometimes aspirants divert from the right path and this leads to cost of their attempts. Ishita believes that in this examination right guidance and direction, both play a very important role in the aspirant’s life while preparing. It can be from any source. Aspirants can take the help of coaching, toppers, selected candidates, teacher's, veterans’ aspirants or to any one.

READING NCERT BOOKS

 She believes that NCERT Books builds a strong base. These books should be read before other UPSC standard reference books. She also mentioned that nowadays questions are consistently asked directly or indirectly from NCERT books. NCERT books will help you and provide a clear pathway for your preparation.

CONSISTENCY AND DISCIPLINE

She said, Consistency is very important; it will help you to complete the whole syllabus which is quite huge. She mentioned that preparation is your responsibility. She followed a study routine that involved devoting 40-45 hours each week to preparation. Do not delegate the responsibility to anyone. Evaluate yourself from time to time and work on your weakness.

UPSC NOTES MAKING

She believes that making your own notes is the best way to prepare. In this way, you are able to evaluate yourself better. One cannot gain success in UPSC civil services examination without preparing their own notes and revising them regularly. 

She believes in 3 R’s, Read, Revise and Re-Revise.

 

Ishita sharing her Tips and views with future aspirants: 

"Along with your hard work, the strategy also plays a very important role. So, reflect on your mistakes, as to why you have failed in the previous attempts. Carve out a unique strategy. You need not follow someone, just have a unique strategy and work hard. Do practice more and more. There is no substitute for hard work in this examination.”
