First Smart Speaker System
Researchers at the University of Washington have developed a new smart
speaker skill (BreathJunior) that allows a device to use white noise to
soothe sleeping babies and monitor their breathing and movements.
BreathJunior tracks both small motions like the chest movement involved
in breathing and large motions when babies move around their cribs.
It also picks up the sound of a baby crying.
When it was tested by the researchers with five babies in a local
hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, it detected respiratory rates
closely matching standard vital sign monitors.
