India’s first indigenous Overhauser Magnetometer

  • An autonomous research institution under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), has developed the country’s first Overhauser Magnetometer to reduce dependence on imports. This instrument allows geomagnetic sampling experiments to be conducted at a lower cost. 
  • The sensor is installed at the Alibag Magnetic Observatory. One of the world’s most accurate magnetometers, the Overhauser Magnetometer is widely used around the world by all magnetic observatories.
