Hi!
Geog selection is quite good. If u have a genuine intersent in Soio then its ok. Otherwise Geog and Socio combination becomes too vast. ALso there is few days gap between them during mains..Try to choose a subject which do have long gap in between them such as Psyco, Pub ad or Philospy.. (provided that u also have a interst in these since u have to devote at least 300 hours in the subject).I have written Mains 2006-07 with Geog and Psyco but could not qualified due to average marks in Essay. I can guide u in Geog and Psycho if u wish

and was confused about selecting optionals as u were
consulted many prof and fellow students
they suggested me to take
geog as first optional and pub- adm or sociology as second optional
being frm engg background
our analytical study approach will help us to study geog
where as second optional will be purely on ur intrest
they told me to check sullybas and question paers

hi aritri,
firstly, it's great that an engineer want's to be civil servant.
choosing civils as your next option is really great and i wish you good luck.
then regarding optionals, you said that your first optional paper is geography, if you have chosen the subject with interest then it's perfect.
regarding second optional, being an engineer of ece branch, you could choose electrical engineering or physics as your optional. but only if your interested in that, because civil preparation require lot of patience and u need to study the same subjects fr 1-2 yrs consistently.
or also, u can even take pubic ad/sociology. because both have lot of study material and even success rate is high.
but subject selection entirely depends on your interest.

Hi!
If u have arrived at the subj selection randomly then it could, God forbades, prove disasters. but if u have a genuine interst then perfect. However, i tell u that please have a look at Pub Ad syllabus and see that whether u are able to have a feel about it. this is because both History and Pol Science have a vast sylb. ALso pol science have little problem with materials and guidance, which Pub Ad dont have. also the success rate is high..
