Civil Services exam existing syllabus itself is very vast and more than enough to choose best brains from amongst thosands of aspirants. ' Aptitude test ' will put more time constraints. If it is really essential to include aptitude test then my suggestion is to conduct prelims in one year and mains in its next year

what upsc has done is a great move. the past experience has to be changed to gain the new improved initiative. Older system that is prelims is inefficient way to analyse the human capability. the new system is fine to an extent, but does not answer all the aspect. exam which could check the candidate general knowledge and stress level is the only recruitment pattern which will bring an efficient civil server to this inefficient bureaucracy.

This is really a good step forward. The only concern is that it should be made clear from when this change is going to be implemented ? Is it from 2010 or 2011 onwards This would make aspirants clearer towards the preparation.
Thanks in advance.

this change is really good . but the effect will increase the science & engineering background students but those students who R preparing for a long time and from the art background may worry about it .

No it will prove disastrous for those who are preparing for last 2 years on previous years guidelines.although a good move it should be implemented from 2012 onwards so that students get ample time to frame their mind...

After reading the news article i realised that indeed the civil service reform debate, which gained more momentum after upa got to power in 2004, has got its due worth. The civil service aspirants anxiety andworry is an obvious and natural reaction but " har dar ke age jeet hai".
The Commission has an massive and a very responsible task of recruiting individuals worthy of governing future India. Being brilliant and top-scorer in academic career does not guarantee decision making skill and leadership traits needed for the job nor does being "duffer" benefits. Its but obvious that the decision is taken to improve the quality and most important to recruit public officials of sharp acumen and accountability in order to have a transparent and innovative governance. the job demands more challenges especially in todays "glocal" environment. The only hitch is 2010 implementation would shock everyone. The commission should give sufficient time. The study pattern should get adapted. Hence dear colleagues do not worry. As birbal says, jo hota hai acche ke liye hota hai.
