Hey Aspirants! Here UPSC might thinking to change the format of the exaim in the sense changing the PRLIMS two objective type( one GS and one Optional) to the same two objective type (one GS and one Civil Service Aptitude) correct me if am wrong. If we see the speech of Agarwal in inagural function they mentioned as two objective papers. So here GS and One Apti will become a common platform for everybody. 1) Yes its true, that this pattern will effect the Mains and may go up to dilute it. Need a increased gap between prelims and mains 2) It may have greater negative effect on non Math(Arts students) and will have advantage to CAT etc preparing aspirants, if the Apti is of Quantitative analysis but what i guess is that, the Apti the commission talking abt may not be of the general , regular apti. ONLINE FORMAT: Yes this would be fine to make the exaim online and all the application transactions. Thanks, Vj

What is aptitude test? whether they mean the maths qs..like mensuration problems and the CAT based numerical sums? what is the need for those qs in UPSC when already a section of 10-20 qs is there in the name of numerical ability? R these bank exams ? to test our numerical skills,we already hav enuf qs papers to crack these in CAT,GMAT..... So i feel absolutely there is no need for the proposed changes. In the event of introducing it anyway, whom the UPSC is trying to satisfy? Who are going to be the beneficiaries/losers of the new proposal? Changes have to be made radical like testing the Ethics and morales of the candidiates..otherwise the new change will benefit only the IIT ians and be a bane to the Pure science/ Non Math background. I wud like to ask them whether they will be willing to add few sections from public administration, psychology,political science ,human interactions etc as these are what play an important role in shaping the career of the UPSC aspirants not MATHS questions or formula based sums.. NEED SUM INTEROSPECTION PLS

Kuchchh to hai.....which we can prepare heartedly and are sure while we are preparing...moreover almost all private and PSUs are taking apti in their written procedure.......no need to prepare seprately. BUT.................... new books are to be bought as syllabus is changed......but I am happy

I think this would take some time to implement.......may be 2011... Aspirants are already in the 2010 preparations ....But if this change took place....the whole three stage process.....lacks some balance to stand na....atleast two stage Prelims and Mains......People are preparing simultaneously both for Prelims and Mains in their own style....This change brings two separate preparations......some people even frustrates........UPSC wants to filter maximum no of candidates from the prelims as possible as they can...... so that selections are reasonable and decent in the further stages........ I think this aptitude test more like psychometric tests....... All they wanted to test the candidates mental abilities.... Aptitude test sounds good but we need time to accept the change..........

We would like to know and have a clear explanation from UPSC on why this change is proposed. We have students preparing for 2 and 3 years who have made up their mind on how to crack these exams. Now what should we do. The institutions and everything changes. We have our stratey of Preparation that i have been following from one year. NOW please explain for people like me what should we do and where should we go for coaching and to settle down withthe new pattern we need atleast a years time to get an idea.

sir its good hav apptitude test in upsc exams ,because we cant predict a person only by the marks he scored in kis optionals.my intention is that if the shanges are made in prelims the preparation for the mains will gat disturbed.to overcome this problem some changes are to be made in mains also

Instead of bringing compulsory apti paper they can bring separate section in GS where every one has to attend some minimum no of questions or they may can have sectional cut off like in CAT...This would bring the balance in the test...If we are saying apti test will provide a edge to engg students then we should accept the fact that the popular optionals like geo,publc admin are also providing the same edge to aspirants....Prelims should have a common platform where everyone is having equal chance of getting into mains..In mains people can show their skills in the optionals...The GS(prelims) cut off marks are not same for each candidate (depends upon his\her optional and no of applicants in that optional) so upsc decided to change this partiality i think...

I think its a great thinking because even I was feeling the same thing about the pattern of IAS.The apptitude test will help to judge the right candidate for the powerfull post, beacuse this job not only gives prestigies but also power to change the country.

i want answer of some question.. Q-1. Does the new pattern work same for candidates from engineering and medical sciences? because the main exam have to study only IPC, Administration Etc. Q-2. How it help a person who is weak in maths or numerical abilities while the overall record of that person is good. It depend person to person some persons are good at theroy while some at numerical. Q-3. What Abt the Other State Exam. Its a well known truth that any aspirant for Civil services cant be sure about his success. So mostly prepared for the state level exams also but here the pattern does not resemble with them. Q-4 What abt the Working Candidates or A candidate already in job or from a diffrent background like different sciences. i found many successful candidate who prepare for exam with their present Job Field. Q.5 What is diffrence between The civil service preliminary exam or bank's clerical exam. Q.6 Most of us start our preparation from graduate level. Do u think it is easy for science background or an professional course student. Q-7 What about the old aspirants means they r preparing from the old pattern and dis one have no similarity except essay and indian languge. It just like u miss an opportunity and you miss the opportunity whole life. Q.8 I think Civil service include many service in that just like railways, revenue, taxes etc. So do we need only a person who is good in administration while he/she doesnt have any knowledge abt their department. Q-9 It is better then Govt of India start a school for civil services because in this manner we start to make students from the starting. I have public administration as optional so i dont have much problem with this pattern but it is really a mess for the aspirants of science background because they have to choose they never study or have any interest in subject. overall in my view it just a mess. It will help to down moral of new aspirants. Plz dont impliment them.
