"It still has not sunk in and yes, the phone is ringing off the hook. Somewhere, I understand it is only the beginning," he said.

After completing his BSc in Physics from Fergusson College, Pune, Karthick, even as he was acquiring multiple degrees, had a single goal: to join the airforce. Once I had decided this is what I want, there was a lot a of hard work," he said.

The topper's list also has engineers and doctors who shared the common passion for cracking what is arguably the toughest entrance exam in the country.

(Success Story) IAS 81st Rank: Deepti's mother vows to fight for girl child

https://iasexamportal.com/images/upsc.JPGThe post office in Panchkula's Sector 8 had an unusual liveliness to it on Thursday. And all the attention was directed towards one of the employees, Neelam Uppal. Clad in a celebratory mustard 'salwaar-kameez', she looked every bit the happy mother of Deepti, a content writer who has secured the 81st rank in UPSC examination.

''The phone hasn't stopped ringing,'' she said, just before taking another congratulatory call from a well-wisher, one she said she hadn't heard from in a long time. ''People who come to post office regularly also called to share their happiness over Deepti's success,'' the proud mother gushed.

(Success Story) Muhammed Ali Shihab a Muslim orphanage cleared UPSC Exam

https://iasexamportal.com/images/upsc.JPGMuhammed Ali Shihab has faced many tests in his life. Some he had no control over: his father died when he was 11, his impoverished mother sent him away to an orphanage, he was forced to stop studying to take up a peon’s job, and family circumstances forced him to drop out of even Civil Services coaching. Others Shihab took on himself: an Arabic medium-student, who has cleared 21 exams so far conducted by various government agencies for all kinds of posts, yesterday joined the ranks of India’s successful Civil Service Examination candidates.

It was the 31-year-old’s third attempt, and he ranks 226th on the list. However, for the boy who spent 10 years in a Muslim orphanage, who wrote his Mains in Malayalam and appeared for the interview with the help of a translator for want of proficiency in English, it is a giant leap.

(Success Story) Abhiram G Shankar Ranked 4th in the UPSC Examination 2010

https://iasexamportal.com/images/upsc.JPGAbhiram G Shankar, ranked fourth in the UPSC Civil Service Examination, does not exactly remember the last time he sent a scrap on Orkut.

He does not remember either, the last time he sat through an entire film. But the State topper in the Civil Service Examination precisely remembers every single question in perfect order, one by one, he was asked during the final interview of the UPSC Civil Service Examination.

‘‘You’ve got to have a sense of discretion. You cannot remember everything you study. But once you know how to remember what really matters and reproduce it at the right time, your success is guaranteed,’’ Abhiram, a native of Attingal, puts it crisply before excusing himself to pose for mediamen and to receive the guests pouring in.

Once he decided to aim at Civil Service chucking offers from MNCs, this B Tech graduate never logged on to any community sites. Except for the fifteen minutes he would talk to his parents every day from the training academy in Chennai, Abhiram was literally cocooned.

India’s economic and social progress is forever undermined by constant onslaught of drought followed by devastating floods. There is no denying that the country has registered growth in putting water to productive uses — for irrigation to realize the objectives of food security, of water conservation for crops requiring a considerable amount of water or even underground water for industrial and agricultural purposes. Despite this, the demand for water is visibly more than the supply of available and sustainable water. This is because water resources are not integrated in a systematic way to provide for varied uses.

1. The need of the hour is to manage water resources by integrated method.

2. Unavailability of sufficient water has had an adverse effect on India’s economic progress.

3. India does not lack in the supply of sustainable water for various purposes.

4. India has achieved the maximum level possible in the channelling of its water resources.

5. The trend of conservation of water in India is a recent one.

(Article) UPSC is toughest exam than CAT, says IIT & IIMA Passout

https://static.upscportal.com/images/ias-vs-cat.jpgAccording to IIMA 2006 pass-out, Pruthviraj Mina, appearing for CAT and securing admission to one of the most prestigious B-schools in India was quite easy as compared to appearing for the Union Public Service Commission exams.

Born into a family of IAS and IPS officers, the UPSC exams were a natural move for Mina, who is also an alumnus of IIT Mumbai besides IIMA. And on his very first attempt, he secured a rank of 874.

Weighing the parameters of CAT and UPSC exams, Mina said, "Appearing for UPSC is a completely different ball game and there can be no comparison between the exams I have appeared for in the past and the UPSC exam."
