CSC E-GovernanceIndia Ltd

  • The CSC E-Governance India Ltd (CSC SPV), recently, announced the launch of an e-marketplace or portal for agri services that will enable farmers to buy seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, cattle feed, and other agri-input products.
  • The portal is aimed at empowering small and marginal farmers, who constitute 86% of India’s farming community.
  • The CSC SPV, a special purpose vehicle under the Ministry of Electronics & IT, provides a host of electronic services to consumers through its common service centres.

Bal-swaraj-COVID Care Portal

  • Recently, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has extended the use ofBal-swaraj-COVID-Care Portal for tracking children who have lost both its parents or either of the parent during COVID-19.
  • Bal-swaraj is an online tracking and real-time monitoring portal, devised by NCPCR for child in need of care & protection.
  • It helps NCPCR in performing its duties as a monitoring authority under section 109 of the Juvenile JusticeAct, 2015.

Indian Peacekeepers to be Honoured with Medal of UN

  • Three Indian peacekeepers, who laid down their lives while serving in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions last year, are among 129 military, police and civilian personnel honoured with a prestigious UN medal awarded posthumously for courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.

About:

  • Corporal Yuvraj Singh, who served with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and two civilian peacekeepers -- Ivan Michael Picardo, who served with UNMISS, and Mulchand Yadav, who worked for the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) -- were honoured posthumously with the Dag Hammarskjold Medal during a sombre virtual ceremony on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
  • India is the fifth largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping with more than 5,500 military and police serving in peace operations in Abyei, Cyprus, Congo, Lebanon, the Middle East, Somalia, South Sudan and the Western Sahara, according to the UN.
  • The International Day of UN Peacekeepers is observed annually on May 29 to pay tribute to the uniformed and civilian personnel for their invaluable contribution to the work of the world organisation and to honour the more than 4,000 peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving under the UN flag since 1948.

China reports human case of H10N3 bird flu

  • China’s National Health Commission said that it had confirmed one case of human infection with the H10N3 strain of bird flu in Jiangsu province.

About:

  • The case, detected in a male aged 41 living in Zhenjiang, a city in the eastern province, was transmitted from poultry, and the risk of spreading on a large scale was very low, according to a statement on the website of the commission.
  • According to National Health Commission of China, there has not been any case of human infection of H10N3 reported in the world before.

 

Floating jetty

  • Union Minister of State (I/C) for Ports, Shipping & Waterways the second floating jetty at Old Goa virtually today on the occasion of Goa statehood day.

About:

  • The Government of India has approved setting up of two Concrete floating jetties on River Mandovi (NW-68) to connect Old Goa and Panjim.
  • This is the second floating jetty constructed on River Mandovi (NW-68). 
  • Earlier, the first jetty located at Captain of Ports, Panjim Goa was inaugurated by Minister of Ports Shipping & Waterways in presence of Chief Minister of Goa on 21st February 2020 at Panjim.

Advantages:

  • Their price is approximately 1/5th of the price of fixed jetty.
  • Similarly they are quicker to build and install, easier to use.
  • The designed life of floating jetty is up to 50 years.
  • Also, being floating structures they don’t need CRZ clearances.
  • They can be increased in size or reduced as per changes in users’ requirement or the changes in jetty site’s hydrographic profile.​​​​​​​

Tianzhou-2 cargo spacecraft

  • China took another step towards completing the construction of its first space station by the end of next year following the launch and docking of a cargo spacecraft.

About:

  • The Tianzhou-2 cargo spacecraft, described by China’s state media as “the delivery guy for China’s space station”, was launched late on Saturday on a Long March-7 rocket from the island of Hainan, and docked eight hours later with the space station’s first core module called Tianhe, or “heavenly harmony”.
  • The launch was a third landmark for China’s space programme in recent weeks. China landed a spacecraft in Mars on May 15 carrying its first Mars rover, Zhurong. The Tianhe module, which the cargo spacecraft docked with on Sunday, was launched on April 29.
  • The Tianzhou-2 spacecraft carried a range of supplies, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said, and will be followed by the launch of another cargo spacecraft, Tianzhou-3, and two manned missions, Shenzhou-12 and Shenzhou-13, later this year, each carrying three astronauts who will spend several months in orbit. The Shenzhou-12 launch is slated for mid-June.
